What we don’t see - unless we look.

Yes, it sounds obvious, but do we really look? Do we really notice?

Our surroundings, both natural and man-made, subtly inform us of what our home, North Wales is. The visitor may be seeking out the differences, the character or maybe the stereotypes that could form that all-important ‘first impression’. The local person may become so familiar with their home environment they naturally start to take it all for granted.

But to everyone, the quirkiness, humour or even banality is what three documentary photographers have recorded in each other’s company during explorations of local towns, villages and countryside over the course of a few years. On each walk we weave a thread through our surroundings, connecting parts and constructing personal experiences, fostering a dialogue between the external and our internal world.

Our immediate environment changes, through new developments, redevelopment of existing structures, or simplythrough the passage of time. We feel it is important to document our shared surroundings, not only buildings, street corners and shop fronts but also the quiet details through images.

Today, photography is truly democratic - we all have camera phones in our pockets. Take a walk through your local surroundings. What do you see when you truly look?
