Recovery in Focus

With Eternal Media

Recovery in Focus is an Eternal Media project working with people in early recovery from addiction to drink and drugs. Looking through the lens of a camera gives participants new and exciting ways to tell their stories of addiction and recovery. They want to show that recovery is possible - that they can and do recover.

The recent Recovery in Focus group spent time in workshops exploring their own experiences and learning tools to help stay clean and sober. Tutorials in photography techniques helped develop skills and widen both knowledge and confidence.

Time was spent out on location, with trips to places around North Wales to put those new skills into action – Erddig, Colwyn Bay, Wrexham – plus trips to Media City, The Imperial War Museum and Chester.

The group also visited various exhibitions and openings at Oriel Colwyn, and were inspired by gallery and festival curator Paul Sampson’s offer to work towards exhibiting their own project at The Northern Eye Festival.

Each participant produced one image to represent ‘addiction’ and one image to represent ‘recovery’ and we are thrilled to share their images with you to highlight their individual and collective journeys.

All festival exhibitions are FREE to visit.
