Street Portrait Workshop with Niall McDiarmid
An amazing opportunity to discover Niall McDiarmid's secret to approaching and photographing people in the street. Topics for discussion will include camera setup, composition and use of available light after which he will then challenge participants to make their own portraits.
Workshop numbers will be small to ensure the maximum benefit for all attendees. With only 8 places available the workshop cost has been kept low with the kind help of the Imagine Colwyn Bay project.

Niall McDiarmid is a Scottish photographer based in London. His work primarily focuses on documenting the people and landscapes of Britain. Recent exhibitions have included British Portraits here at Oriel Colwyn in Colwyn Bay in 2016; Here and Now: London Portraits at the Museum of London in 2017; Town To Town at the Martin Parr Foundation, Bristol in 2018; and Hidden Hospitality across Llandudno’s seafront in 2018.
Niall has published four books: Crossing Paths(2013), Via Vauxhall (2015), Town To Town (2018) and Southwestern (2019). His work is held at The Museum of London, The National Portrait Gallery, The Martin Parr Foundation and the Sir Elton John Photography Collection.
For the Northern Eye Festival, Niall has made a special series of photographs focusing on the people who independently trade in Colwyn Bay and Rhos on Sea to build a contemporary portrait of local independent shopkeepers.
State of Independents is exhibited in the prom shelters between Rhos on Sea and Old Colwyn and through this work has built a striking series of images that reflects the wealth characters and businesses within our town.
