Marco Longari graduated “cum laude” from the Istituto Superiore di Fotografia in Rome in 1999 but had started his career as a photojournalist the previous year covering the unrest in Kosovo. This work is collected in a book, “Nachbarn des Krieges”. After moving to Africa in 2000,he freelanced for Agence – France Presse (AFP) for whom he has worked to this day as photographer and Chief Photographer, first in Nairobi co-ordinating the coverage in East Africa.
In Jerusalem he covered Israel and the Palestinian Territories. While there he won Time Magazine Wire Photographer of the Year in 2012.
He is now back in Africa based in Jo’Burg.
Over the course of his career he has also covered among other issues the Darfur crisis, the war in Georgia and the events of the Arab Spring. His work has been featured in several group and solo exhibitions.
His book on refugees “Rifugiati” (Sossella) has a preface by the Dalai Lama.
